"From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia I will bring My worshippers, the daughter of My dispersed ones and they shall bring My offering." - Zeph. 3:10
Projects
Strategic projects and intervention have been developed by Project Sheba to accelerate successful assimilation of Ethiopian Jews into Israeli society. Projects aim to increase employment, develop leaders, support needy families and give hope for the future.
- Adopt a Student:
- Project Sheba supports students studying at college level in vocational training and leadership training. Students train in many occupations which include dental assistants, children’s assistants, secretaries and administrators, bookkeepers, computer proficiency skills, bus and lorry drivers, hairdressers and cosmeticians.
- Donors may adopt a student to assist with tuition, text books and college supplies.
- Cost to assist one student: Average scholarship between $500- $1,500
- Computer assistance:
- Computers for students in college and school are always a high priority. Many students are unable to attain good grades or complete assignments due to lack of computers for personal use. This project supplies the neediest with computer access in their homes.
- Cost for one computer: $900
- Children’s tutoring program:
- Project Sheba provides home tutoring for up to 30 children in the Jerusalem area each year. Ethiopian-Israeli tutors assist children who are struggling in school due to lack of resources at home, or low grades. Significant and notable improvements have been achieved in children’s work. Children with scholastic potential are also tutored; a number have been accepted into selective schools for gifted children after tutoring.
- Cost for tutoring one child for one year: $200
- Life skill and leadership seminars:
- Project Sheba conducts life skill seminars and self development courses on a regular basis. Topics include budgeting and financial planning; how to write a resume and apply for a job; developing self confidence and leadership skills; family and parenting skills; topics for women.
- Cost to support one seminar: Average cost: $250
- Micro business loans:

- Small business loans are given to encourage potential “entrepreneurs”. Funds are given after needs assessment to encourage small home businesses.
- Cost of one business loan: $2,000- $4,000
- Humanitarian Aid:
- Project Sheba receives many requests for humanitarian aid from needy families throughout Israel. Requests include dental assistance, medicines and eye glasses, as well as food supplies and basic family needs. Many families struggle to pay utility bills and general living costs. It is often not just the amount, but the knowledge that someone cares and can give hope.
- Cost to help one family in need: Any amount will make a difference and tell them that you care.
- Ethiopian Cultural Enrichment:
- Project Sheba recognizes the importance of preserving the rich Ethiopian culture that enhances multi-cultural Israeli society. Support, both financial and advisory, is given to sculptors, painters and musicians.
- Sample products for sale can be viewed to the right. Contact Project Sheba if you would like to know more, or to purchase genuine Ethiopian Jewish handcrafts.
