Saving a Life

My name is Berehane Terefe and I was born in Ethiopia. I am 35 years old and I was born with a severe illness; a lung condition known as Chronic Bronchiectasis. Since childhood, my illness has prevented me from running, jumping or exerting myself in anyway. In order to receive proper medical treatment, eight years ago I came to Israel from Ethiopia with a referral from a doctor at "Tokor Ambessah" hospital in Addis Ababa. I've been under medical supervision since my arrival in Israel. I undergo medical treatments that are quite difficult, both physically and mentally. Needless to say, I've spent most of my life in hospitals. Due to my illness, I am unable to work for a living and lead a normal life.

My medical status has been deteriorating from day to day. I'm constantly in need of oxygen and cannot breath on my own. After several years of treatment, I was notified on May 12th. 2010, that I must have a lung transplant. However, at present I am not receiving any treatment or medical management. The doctor's assessment is that I have severe bronchitis and chronic respiratory failure. Despite this fact, I know for certain that the only hope I have is to receive proper and safe medical treatment in Israel or some other place. All that remains for me is to ask for a chance to live.

I have been informed by the hospital that the cost of undergoing a lung transplant is US $120,000 (one hundred twenty thousand). I cannot pay this amount of money and my family is not financially able to provide assistance to me. I pray that God will send many good people, as soon as possible, who could contribute or help me raise the necessary funds to cover the cost of this expensive surgery. I am in urgent need of help and prayer. I don't want to leave this world without trying to save my own life. Therefore, I would humbly ask from the bottom of my heart for your assistance.

I desire to live a normal healthy life. I am dependent upon my sister, as I share her house with her minor children. Because of my health situation, it is not safe for children to live with me. Because of my financial situation I am not in the position to rent a room or an apartment by myself. I thank God for your blessings and goodwill.
